Written On Skin

In 2017, Ozero Arts brought George Benjamin’s celebrated opera, Written on Skin to the Mariinsky Theatre in an ‘electrifying’ semi-staging. This was followed two years later with the Russian premiere of Lessons in Love and Violence in partnership with the London Chamber Orchestra.

These two large-scale tours were the culmination of a multi-year cultural exchange to St. Petersburg which saw Ozero Arts facilitate the Russian premieres of several key 20th-and 21st-century works - at the Mariinsky Theatre and St. Petersburg Philharmonia - including Maxwell Davies Eight Songs for a Mad King, Walton Façade, Ligeti Aventures & Nouvelles Aventures and Birtwistle The Triumph of Time.

Zeffman’s impressively lucid conducting and the orchestra’s totally assured playing ensured that the rainbow of colours that Benjamin conjures were vividly conveyed.

The Times

Zeffman revels in the score’s jagged climaxes and spine-chillingly eerie textures.

The Times

Zeffman, a guest artist at LSO St Luke’s this season, has definitely made his mark with this show. Ambitious and expert, it won’t be long before he’s making his mark on larger stages.
